Mr. Marshall Jones Still Singing at 92. Now That's Maximizing His Potential!

Joy is what Mr. Marshall Jones brings every time he sings. Born in the little town of Monroe, Georgia and raised in the Georgia Mountains town of Summerville, Mr. Marshall Jones has been singing and praising God for almost 90 years.

He celebrated his 92nd birthday on December 10th, 2005 and his voice is still holding strong!!

The son of a minister, Rev. C. L. Jones, Marshall Jones was exposed to hymns and spirituals at an early age. His love for singing surfaced as young boy when he would listen to older men and women sing in the church. While he has been an active member of the A. M. E. Zion church for over 85 years, no matter where he goes, before he can get through the church door, somebody is asking him to sing. And, Mr. Jones, in spite of how he may be feeling at the time, will be obedient and sing.

"This is the country way of doing things. I enjoy singing for the Lord. Nowadays, the music is so loud; you can't hear what they singing. I want to hear the words. Even if it's a moan, I want to hear it", says Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones can best be described as a man who uses his singing talent to worship and praise his God. During the 1940's and 1950's, Mr. Jones was lead singer for the Tri-City Harmonizers, a popular gospel Quartet of that time. Performing throughout the South, The Tri-City Harmonizers sang with such gospel groups as The Five Blind Boys and The Golden Gates. Every Sunday morning listeners could hear Mr. Jones and his group perform inspiring tunes on Rome, Georgia's WRGA radio station!

Mr. Marshall Jones is dedicated to spreading God's message through song. He delights when approached by children and youth who tell of his positive influence on their lives. Be it humming an old hymn around his house or uttering melodious praises in God's house, Marshall Jones believes that there is always time to sing!

Mr. Jones was a devoted husband to the late Eva Jones and is a loving father of three daughters (Marshall Ann, Gayle, and Rosalyn), five grandsons, five great-grand children, many nieces and nephews and lots of folks who just love to be around him. You can call him "Daddy", "Granddaddy", "Uncle Marsh", or "Mr. Jones"; he'll answer to them all because he loves the sound of children around.

"They just make me happy", says Mr. Jones.
"I'll just get down on the floor with 'em and let 'em beat me up and they just laugh when I start crying. Boy! That is fun to see them laugh."

Just sit near Mr. Jones long enough and you are sure to hear a familiar tune. Soon you will find yourself singing and smiling along with him while he praises the Lord as only he knows how. His music is a timeless message for today through stories of yesterday: love of family, love of wife, even through sickness, and love of God through it all.

His message is for God's people, not just Black people nor White people; not for Americans nor non-Americans; not just Church people, but for those who believe in God and desire to follow God's instructions.

The Holy Spirit will speak truth to their hearts and they will know that Jesus is Lord. Now that's Good Religion!

"Of One Accord" Offers Sweet-Sounding Harmonies of Good Old-Fashioned Southern Gospel Music

Of One Accord

Of One Accord blends the sweet-sounding harmonies of good old-fashioned southern gospel music with a contemporary feeling to make each concert a musical experience. From old standards like Step Into The Water and Jesus Is Coming Soon to a host of new music, Of One Accord has a message in song for everyone.

The group makes its home in Frisco, Texas, just north of Dallas. Baritone-vocalist David McMahon and bass-vocalist Darrin Bruner co-founded the group in 2004 to reach the lost and encourage believers through the ministry of southern gospel music and their personal testimonies. Within a month, they added lead-vocalist John Graves, and a year later, tenor-vocalist Steven Coyne joined the quartet.

In that short time, the group has performed for local churches, at gospel festivals and home-goings, and at the contest stages at National Quartet Convention. Each member shares a deep love of southern gospel music. The timeless message found in these rich harmonies impacts each of their lives every day, and they want to share that message with others.

With a rich diversity in backgrounds and sounds reminiscent of The Cathedrals and The Statesmen quartets, the combination of all four voices blended together in tight harmonies has audiences sitting on the edge of their seats. This quartet truly has a sound unique in today's Southern Gospel music industry.

Leigh Nash's Charming Audiences with Her Ethereal Voice.

Leigh Nash grew up in the southern Texas town of New Braunfels, not too far from San Antonio. Two years ago Leigh bottomed out after finding herself face to face with the dark underbelly of the protestant work ethic when giving and giving didn't equal getting what she always imagined.

Sixpence None the Richer, the band she had been a member of for nearly half of her life, thirteen years all told, was contemplating calling it quits. Leigh and high school mate, Matt Slocum, had formed the group as teenagers, touring in sedans and cramped vans, slowly building a career.

In spite of the colossal success the band enjoyed with ubiquitous pop singles like Kiss Me and There She Goes, the group was continually plagued by the business woes of the trade and finally decided to split ways amicably. Disoriented by this major change, Leigh and her husband left their Nashville home of ten years and moved to Los Angeles.

It was a major life change for Leigh who had been with Sixpence since she was fourteen. Age 27 at the time and not knowing what else to do, Leigh started writing songs, while seated on her back porch over an Easter weekend.

While in Los Angeles, Leigh penned a batch of songs that would eventually comprise her first solo record,
Blue on Blue
, a sweetly understated collection of musings on love and motherhood due out August 15th 2006 on One Son Records, Leigh's own imprint label through Nettwerk Productions.

Alway wanting to do a record on her own, if the band were to break up, Leigh finally had the opportunity to do so, recalls Leigh.

A few months after Sixpence None the Richer parted ways, Leigh welcomed her son, Henry, into the world, along with a new sense of creative vitality. Leigh explained that her songs were not intentionally centered on any one concept, but admited her new-found maternity was a source of inspiration.

Motherhood came pretty fast, causing her to start writing much about Henry. With a bushel of songs in tow, Leigh set up shop with Canadian producer Pierre Marchand (Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright) last winter at his barn in Milles Isle an hour outside of Montreal. Recording there with a slew of Montreal-area musicians, Leigh felt the auspices of home without the soreness of Sixpence's split. Marchand and Leigh co-wrote two songs, album opener, All Along the Wall and Between the Lines. Marchand's lush, warm production gives Leigh's songs an earthy luster that carefully cushions her sweet, lilting voice.

In the meantime, Leigh moved back to Music City and into a new community of musicians a recently formed rock collective called Movement Nashville. The group hopes to dispel the myth that musically Nashville is limited to Country or Christian.

Leigh has two distinct poles of inspiration:
  1. her work with Sixpence in the Christian music sphere and

  2. her childhood fascination with older female country artists like Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline. In many ways Blue on Blue emanates squarely between those two regions without being pulled down by any of the inbred trappings of the genres. Leigh's faith informs her songwriting in equal measure as her affinity for country music.

Leigh started singing country music and learning old country songs on the guitar when she was twelve. Although extremely shy, but with the desire to get on stage, Leigh started calling clubs herself to ask if she could come down and sing.

Before long, the adolescent Leigh was singing Loretta Lynn's and Tanya Tucker's songs like "You Aint Woman Enough to Take My Man" and "Texas When I Die" on alcohol-free, open mike Sunday nights, and backed by a middle-aged band of town locals. In spite of her country allure, Leigh never developed an accent, and later in life her interest in pop acts like The Sundays, Innocence Mission, and The Cranberries provided more formative material for her songwriting and singing.

On
Blue on Blue
, Leigh's croon possesses an unadorned glisten, a sensibility that is simultaneously natural and ethereal. On the album-closing ballad, Just a Little, Leigh's voice floats through an earnest tribute to her son, Henry, while on the epic, Ocean Size Love, her voice soars and shimmers over the Coldplay-sized, piano-driven song.

My Idea of Heaven radiates a child-like simplicity with Leigh's pop awareness guided by a lyrical unfussiness and bright guitar hooks. While Nervous in the Light begins as a tender confession of love and life's fleetingness, it builds into a strong, heartfelt petition for direction, continually held together through Leigh's impassioned but effortless vocals.

With Sixpence behind her and a two-year-old son along for the ride, Leigh is prepped to return to music even though she never really left. Now perhaps a bit more career-conscious and business-weary, Leigh reveals that tired edge without losing her dainty charm. Because of this, Blue on Blue is not just a carefree jog through the present, but a vividly felt exercise wholly informed by the past. In the end, it's bliss.

Leigh Nash's debut solo album,
Blue on Blue in stores August 15th, 2006!

A Sister's Love Says It All!

As a loving sister, Nellie Miranda, keeps the memory alive of her brother who died in a house fire.

The survivor of several pitfalls of her own, Nellie's passion now is to help others who might be in similar situation in which she once was.

Here's how she chose to immortalize him:

Richard Lopez

May 8, 1978-
December 31, 2005

On December 31, 2005, I lost my brother Richie. He was 27 years old. He died in a fire in his apartment.

I want to tell you a little bit about him because he was so special to me and because his birthday would of been May 8th. I was looking thru some of his things today, and memories of this beautiful man started pouring into my head.
  • He was so talented; he loved to rap.

  • He was a wonderful father, he was raising Andy, who is 8 years old.

  • Richie put his own life on hold to raise Andy and wasn't even dating.

The day before he passed away, he had called me. I didn't answer my phone because I was laying down really sick. He sounded so happy on my answering machine. I think he wanted to tell me about his special night in Church. You see, he had backslid from the Lord's ways for a while. He knew he was loosing it. Our Pastor tells us that he reconciled with the Lord that night. I now know that is why he called me, to tell me about how happy and peaceful he was now. I never answered that phone call, and at 9 the next morning, we found out he was gone.

I am at peace with God about Richie's going to meet Him. God sees further down the road, we don't. I know Richie is in peace and rejoicing in front of His maker. I will see you one day again Richie. I love You my baby brother.

Please visit dedication page for him, I put some of his poetry there and you can also hear him rap on there. (Click on banner to visit the dedication page.)

The tears I shed don't do

justice in describing how

much I am missing you;

hearing your newest rap,

your laugh, and how your

smile lit up a room;

I picture you sitting on a

cloud, looking down at us,

swinging your legs to and fro;

I can also imagine you

blessingall up in heaven

with your anointed flow;

When the sky is at its

brightest, I must admit;

I like to think that your

beautiful smile had

something to do with it.

Now, here's what Nellie had to say about herself:

Hey everyone! My name is Nellie and I want to share with you how Jesus saved me from a life of alcohol and drug abuse.

I started at an early age. Lived in streets, tried to take my own life more that i think 10 times or maybe more, forgot my name and where i was from for about 6 months from the abuse while lost in the south, and so much more.

To make a very long story short, I entered a Christian program back in 1992 (yes, I'm gettin' old! lol) and my life has not been the same since. I thank Jesus Christ for changing my life around and my moms, who I love to death. She is a Christian woman and prayer warrior.

My passion now is to help others who are in the same position I once was. If you or someone you know needs help, please feel free to contact me by leaving a coment here or sending me an email at my email address:
w4kiana@yahoo.com.

Hope to meet alot of brothers and sisters in Christ. Thanks for taking time to read a little about me, God bless!

Give Omar K. Alley Your Support and Vote!

Here's a Christian young man who recently decided to pursue his music again as a way to share with others some of what he's seen God do in his life through His son, Jesus Christ.

Hoping to share something that will make you think God has more to offer than meets the eye, Omar has preached, led worship services, and conducted drama teams for the last two years while working at a full time job.

As seasons came and went, and changes occurred at his church job, God dictated to him that it was time for him to step down from his current duties to pursue a new avenue of ministry. Thus, he is finally attempting to do so with all the songs that could not be used in bands where he was a member, but that his wife absolutely loves and adores.

Wait to see what God's plans are for Omar and his family. Let him know if you'd like to hear more of his music.

SHEL Is a Band You Have to See LIVE to Believe!

SHEL They are not your father's family band nor are they the stereotypical youth band. Bringing youthful exuberance, they are ingenious, innovative and powerful - in short, a breath of fresh air. Hailed recently as the NON Trapp family singers (thank you James from Mars Hill Cafe), SHEL bridges the gulf between generations.

Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza work side by side with their father, Andrew Holbrook, writing, arranging, playing, and singing gorgeous and profound music creatively laced with an electric edge.

SHEL's mission is not to just entertain, but to break hearts. Their lyrics remind us that everything we do day in and day out MATTERS.

The depth of our human condition; our every joy and sorrow, the bittersweet ache of loss, our personal search for truth, the fear of rejection in our relationships, our deepest doubts and our tenderest loves; every single piece of our lives matters.

Taking a stand against mediocrity and complacency and with an openness of heart, SHEL asks each of us if we believe we are all connected, if we are all part of one another? Do we settle for a "good enough to get by" mentality and sacrifice the excellence that is in each of us? The band encourages us to discover that there is more to this life, much more if we are but willing to engage and risk for one another.

"I discovered too late, and am still discovering up to this moment, that it is only by living completely in this world that one learns to live by faith. By this worldliness I mean living unreservedly in life's duties, problems, successes, failure. In so doing we throw ourselves completely into the arms of God, taking seriously not our own suffering, but those of God in the world. That, I think, is faith."
Dietrich Bonhoeffer in a letter to Eberhard Bethge, 1944.

For booking call Brenda Blake at 970-227-6516 or email SHEL for promotional materials and CDs.

Leah Martensen Unleashed Her Third Studio Project

Singer/songwriter and World Vision Associate Artist Leah Martensen released her third studio project on Feb 20th. Leah teamed up with "Paradiso Music" from Nashville, TN. Leah had a desire to do something different for this project, something modern but strong.

Producer John Pisciotta caught the vision for the project and called it "What I'm Not." Together they made a great team.

"What I'm Not" took nine months to create and was recorded at the Sound Kitchen in Brentwood, TN and Paradiso Studio in Nashville.

****************************************

“In the past, I struggled with the ‘What I'm Not’ concept, yet God was calling me.

I was sure that if He was calling me, He must be expecting great. I told Him: ‘I am just me.’ So I worked at being great, avoiding my calling. Then God asked me this question: ‘What is great in your eyes’? I didn't have an answer. I just knew I didn't want to let Him down.”

Once Leah reconciled the fact of God looking at her heart and attitude rather than her being the very best singer and performer on tour, her ministry took off.

As she put it: “It's not about how much talent but what you do with what you have been given. I figured out a little biblical secret and I want to pass it on.” Quoting portions of the lyrics from “What I’m Not’: “‘What I'm Not’ is really ‘Who He Is’ and ‘What I Want to Be’, because.... ‘Where I'm at’ is ‘Where He Is’ and ‘He Loves Me for Me’ and ‘For What I'm Not’. That is way cool! Give it a moment to sink in. You'll get it!”

Leah traveled for 8 years with an ensemble that sang in big arenas with major label artists. But as she started to do solo work on the side, she found freedom and ministry in being an independent artist.

“As an Independent Christian Artist, I get to call the shots. I have the freedom to go where God leads. I wouldn't want it any other way.”

That leading has crisscrossed the eastern half of the USA visiting churches, conferences, coffeehouses, fairs and festivals. It resulted in ministry in South Africa and Asia. God has expanded Leah’s ministry in the last two years. She signed with World Vision, a Christian relief and development organization, as an artist associate. God has used her passion for the helpless around the world to stir many in the church to sponsor kids.

“I have seen the devastation and hopelessness in the eyes of children in the squatter camps of South Africa. No clean running water, no toilet facilities, no nutritious food, minimal clothes and no school. The only thing in abundance is disease and death. We can all be missionaries without leaving our home, make an eternal impact on a child, a family, a community on the other side of the world. That really gets me excited.”

“I've been singing all my life and traveling the last 16 years. I get to do this with my husband of 21 years and I love that we can grow together in this ministry. We count it a privilege that God would allow us to join with pastors and churches in their ministry.”

Delivered with energy and passion the songs on ‘What I’m Not’ crystallizes the message Leah has being telling over the years.

I say, "Linda, You Go, Girl!" You're truly maximizing your potential by putting into full use the talents, skills, and abilities the Good Lord has blessed you with!
